About Code Breaker

Code Breaker is a classic deduction game in the spirit of the famous peg-board code games of the 1970s. The computer hides a secret code of four colours. You make a guess, and the clues tell you how close you are: a pink pin for every colour in exactly the right place, and a white pin for every right colour sitting in the wrong place.

The pins never say which colours they mean, so every guess is a small experiment. Compare the rows, rule out possibilities and close in on the answer before you run out of tries. Easy mode never repeats a colour, Classic allows repeats, and Expert hides five pegs from eight colours. Fewer guesses and less time mean a higher score.

How to play

  1. Tap colours to fill the current row (tap a slot to empty it), then press Check.
  2. Pink pin: right colour in the right place.
  3. White pin: right colour in the wrong place.
  4. Crack the code before the rows run out. Keys 1–8, Backspace and Enter also work.

About Code Breaker

Code Breaker follows the deduction game invented by Mordecai Meirowitz in 1970. It is a great introduction to logical thinking: every guess should test an idea, not just try your luck.

Tips to score higher

  • Start with two colours twice, such as pink pink cyan cyan, to learn a lot at once.
  • Every new guess should be consistent with all earlier clues.
  • A row with zero pins tells you those colours are not in the code at all.
  • Change one thing at a time when you are close.
