How to use the random number generator

    1. Enter the smallest and the largest number you want. Both are included, so 1 to 10 can give 1, 10 or anything in between.
    2. Choose how many numbers to draw, from one up to 1,000.
    3. Tick No repeats if every number must be different, as in a raffle, and Sort the results if you want them in order.
    4. Press Generate or Enter, or use a preset such as 1–10 or 1–100.

Copy the results with one click, and use the history to check your last draws later. Negative numbers work too, from minus one billion up to one billion.

    How random are the numbers?

Many simple number generators use a formula known as a pseudo-random generator. That is fine for games, but its output can be reproduced if you know its starting point. This tool uses the Web Crypto API built into every modern browser instead, which is designed to be unpredictable enough for security keys. It also uses rejection sampling, a method that throws away the rare raw values that would make some numbers slightly more likely than others, so every number in your range has exactly the same chance.

With No repeats switched on, numbers are drawn the way balls come out of a bag: once a number has come out, it cannot appear again in the same draw. That is why you cannot draw more unique numbers than the range contains, for example eleven different numbers between 1 and 10.

    Popular uses

    • Pick a raffle or prize winner by ticket number.
    • Choose a random question, page or exercise.
    • Draw random samples for surveys and school projects.
    • Generate numbers for games, quizzes and party challenges.
    • Settle “pick a number between 1 and 10” fairly, with nobody guessing.

Choosing between just two options? Try the coin flip. Rolling for a board game? The dice roller shows real-looking dice and adds up the total for you.

    Examples

For a raffle with 250 tickets, set the range to 1–250, choose three numbers with no repeats, and you have a first, second and third prize. For a quiz with 40 questions, draw ten numbers from 1–40 without repeats to build a random quiz. To roll a percentage, use 1–100.

    Frequently asked questions

Are the minimum and maximum included?

Yes. A range of 1 to 100 can give any whole number from 1 to 100, including both ends.

Can I generate numbers without repeats?

Yes. Tick “No repeats” and every number in the result will be different, as long as the range is big enough.

How many numbers can I generate at once?

Up to 1,000 numbers per draw, anywhere between -1,000,000,000 and 1,000,000,000.

    Is it truly random?

It uses the cryptographically secure generator built into your browser, which your operating system seeds from unpredictable hardware events. For everyday draws it is as random as you will ever need.

Can I use it for an official lottery?

It suits informal draws in classes, families and small competitions. Official lotteries and regulated prize draws must follow their own legal rules and equipment.
