About Calc Grid
Calc Grid combines the logic of Sudoku with simple arithmetic, in the style of the popular KenKen puzzles. Fill a square grid with the numbers 1 to N so that no number repeats in any row or column. The grid is split into outlined cages, and each cage shows a target and an operation: the numbers inside must add, subtract, multiply or divide to make that target.
A cage marked 6× with two cells can only hold 1 and 6 or 2 and 3, and the row and column rules narrow it down further. Single-cell cages are filled in for you as a starting point. Every puzzle is freshly generated, cages turn green when they are correct, and repeated numbers glow red, so it is a great way to practise mental maths.
How to play
- Tap a cell, then a number on the pad (or type it).
- Each number appears once in every row and column.
- The numbers in a cage must reach its target with its operation.
- For − and ÷ cages, take the larger number first. Hints cost points.
About Calc Grid
Calc Grid follows the arithmetic puzzles created by Japanese teacher Tetsuya Miyamoto in 2004, known as KenKen. It combines Sudoku-style logic with quick sums, which makes it a favourite in classrooms.
Tips to score higher
- Start with single cells and cages whose numbers are forced, such as 2÷ or 7× in small grids.
- A two-cell cage with a big sum leaves only a few combinations.
- Use the row and column rule to eliminate options.
- Green cages are correct; red numbers repeat in a line.
Calc Grid FAQ
Can numbers repeat inside a cage?
